How we operate

The Go-Ahead Group has a distinctive approach within the transport services sector. Its ethos is to provide its operating companies with the freedom to develop and run their business allowing local managers to make local decisions on running local services. Our unique devolved structure means that we can retain a strong local culture while also sharing best practice across our businesses.
 

Bus

Bluestar
Having joined the Go-Ahead Group in 2005, Bluestar (previously known as Solent Blue Line) has developed its business to become the main inter-urban bus operator in southern Hampshire, with a fleet of 117 buses.  

Brighton & Hove
Joining the group in 1993, the company was combined with Brighton Transport in 1997 to create a single bus operator for the area, and now operates a fleet of 257 buses.

Go North East
As the founding company of The Go-Ahead Group, Go North East is one of the largest bus operators in the north east of England, providing over 70 million passenger journeys on its fleet of 665 vehicles.

Go-Ahead London
Our London bus companies operate a combined fleet of over 1,400 vehicles, providing bus services in the capital on behalf of Transport for London. Go Ahead London carried 365 million passengers last year.

Metrobus
Since joining the group in 1999, Metrobus has undergone significant expansion and now operates a fleet of 412 vehicles in both the regulated and deregulated bus markets. Predominantly operating in the Croydon, Bromley, Crawley and Gatwick conurbations, Metrobus carried over 65 million passengers last year.

Oxford Bus Company
Operating in three distinct markets - express coach services, park-and-ride and urban bus services - the company has grown patronage by 50% since its acquisition in 1994 and provided nearly 20 million passenger journeys last year.

Southern Vectis
Southern Vectis was acquired in July 2005. The company provides public service transport operations on the Isle of Wight and provided nearly 10 million passenger journeys last year.

Wilts & Dorset
Acquired by the group in 2003, Wilts & Dorset operates an extensive bus network across Dorset, Wiltshire and South West Hampshire, including an intensive urban network in the Poole-Bournemouth-Christchurch conurbation. With a fleet of 374 buses, almost 20 million passenger journeys are undertaken each year.
 

Rail

Go-Ahead’s rail operation is called Govia. It is a joint venture between Go-Ahead (65%) and Keolis SA (35%). It is the UK’s most enduring partnership between transport operators delivering rail franchises. Commuter rail networks operate in the South East and the Midlands.

   

London Midland
London Midland began operations in November 2007. The company operates over 1200 train services a day through the heart of England, connecting London, the Midlands and the North West. In addition, it manages 149 stations and over 50 million passenger journeys are taken on London Midlands services each year.

Southeastern
Southeastern provides train services throughout Kent, parts of East Sussex and South-East London. The franchise runs from April 2006 to March 2012 and accounted for over 155 million passenger journeys last year. From December 2009 Southeastern will also operate the planned domestic high-speed services on the channel tunnel rail link. A successful Preview service has already been launched this summer.

Southern
Southern provides train services in South London and connects central London to the South Coast, travelling through Sussex, Surrey and parts of Kent and Hampshire. In September 2009, Southern was re-awarded its franchise which will now run for a further five years. Southern also operates the Gatwick Express service.

Aviation  Services

Aviance
Aviance UK is a leading ground handling business providing services for airlines across the UK and Ireland. The business also includes such passenger-facing roles as baggage handling and check-in.

Plane Handling
Plane Handling manages all aspects of ground handling for our client airlines. These include loading, unloading and ground transportation of baggage, mail and cargo as well as cargo warehousing as required.

Reed Aviation
Reed Aviation distributes UK national newspapers by air and surface to more than 40 countries worldwide. The company also provides further specialised ancillary logistics and finishing services to the publishing industry.

Parking

Meteor
Meteor is a leading operator of car parking in the UK, managing almost 50,000 car parking spaces over 200 sites. Meteor manages parking for a range of clients including retail outlets, local authorities, airport operators, NHS trusts, hotel groups and train operating companies. The company also provides specialist security services to other Go-Ahead Group companies and to other clients.
